Un son qui fait le tour de la terre
Le son de Stax nommé "Southern Soul", "Deep Soul", ou encore "Memphis Sound", est un mix de Blues et de Gospel, de Rythm & Blues avec une touche de country. A la mort d’Otis Redding en 1967 puis, en 1968, l’assassinat de Martin Luther King, le label change sous l’influence du jeune disc jockey Al Bell, et le message devient plus politique.
